Ridge View Bank - Ground-up

Salem, VA

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Overview

As a division of CNB Bank, Ridge View Bank’s Salem branch applies CNB’s SMART Center Prototype and represents the brand’s first brick-and-mortar location in the Virginia market. Located on Main Street in Salem, this 2,000 square foot standalone branch introduced Ridge View to the greater Roanoke region with a strong architectural presence and a modern, community-focused banking experience.

As the bank’s entry into a new market, the Salem location served as both a launch point and a foundation for future expansion, including its Roanoke headquarters and additional regional branches.

Element delivered the project as a fully turnkey solution, managing architecture, construction, interior activation, and brand integration from concept through completion.

Project Goals

As Ridge View prepared to enter the Salem market, the objectives were clear and strategic.

Establish a Strong Market Presence

This branch needed to introduce Ridge View with confidence. As the first physical location in the region, high visibility and brand recognition were essential.

Create Community Connection

Positioned along a prominent corridor and local parade route, the branch was designed to feel embedded in the community. The space needed to support engagement, accessibility, and financial education.

Implement the SMART Center Model

The project applied CNB’s SMART Center prototype, blending digital innovation with relationship-driven service.

Build a Foundation for Regional Growth

Salem was the first step in a broader expansion strategy across the greater Roanoke area. The branch needed to establish architectural and operational standards that could carry forward into future projects.

Challenges

The project began on a former gas station site, requiring significant site preparation and remediation due to unsuitable soils. Transforming the property into a fully operational banking facility required careful coordination during the early phases of construction and design adherence.

In addition, the City of Salem maintains strict setback and signage requirements along Main Street. These regulations influenced building placement, entrance orientation, and drive-thru configuration. The design team worked closely with local authorities to ensure compliance while preserving brand impact and operational flow.

The branch also needed to differentiate itself visually while remaining consistent with the broader CNB network.

Solution

Element applied the SMART Center prototype while introducing architectural features unique to the Ridge View market.

The most distinctive design element is the series of exterior roofline peaks inspired directly by the Ridge View logo. Rather than relying solely on applied signage, the architecture itself reinforces the brand identity. This approach creates a recognizable silhouette and strengthens the bank’s presence along a highly visible corridor.

The illuminated peaks enhance that visibility and can shift colors for holidays and community events, reinforcing Ridge View’s commitment to local engagement.

Inside, the SMART Center model replaces the traditional teller line with open service pods that encourage conversation and personalized guidance. Electronic Teller Machines provide live teller access, while an interactive SMART Wall supports financial education and customer engagement. A dedicated kid-friendly zone further reflects Ridge View’s commitment to families and long-term relationships.

Element’s scope included:

  • Architecture and site coordination
  • General contracting
  • Millwork and interior buildout
  • Graphics and branded elements
  • Digital integration
  • Furniture procurement
  • Exterior signage
  • Environmental audio

By consolidating design, construction, and activation under one team, Element ensured brand consistency and cohesion across every touchpoint. The project was completed in approximately 13 months, from active start to turnover.

Results

The Salem SMART Center successfully launched Ridge View Bank into the Virginia market with clarity and impact.
A challenging former gas station site was transformed into a high-visibility community landmark. The architectural expression established a visual language that later carried into additional Ridge View locations.

The SMART Center experience introduced modern banking tools while reinforcing relationship-based service.
The result is a branch that not only serves customers, but also signals long-term investment in the greater Roanoke region.
